Health Testing & Guarantee

.At Inja Australian Labradoodles, we are committed ethical breeders who prioritise health, temperament, and long-term wellbeing in every puppy we raise. Comprehensive health testing is at the core of our breeding program, ensuring we produce strong, healthy Australian Labradoodles for families across Australia. All of our breeding dogs undergo extensive health screening from 12 months of age, including hip and elbow evaluations and DNA testing for inherited conditions.

As trusted ethical breeders of Australian Labradoodles, we proudly offer a 3-year health guarantee covering hereditary conditions that are able to be tested for. This reflects our commitment to responsible breeding practices, transparency, and the lifelong health of every puppy we raise. Hip Health and Testing

At Inja Australian Labradoodles, we use the PennHIP scoring method, one of the most advanced and reliable ways to assess hip joint health and laxity. This scientifically backed system helps identify the risk of hip dysplasia and long-term joint disease.

Research shows that breeding from dogs with better-than-average PennHIP scores significantly reduces the incidence of osteoarthritis in future generations. The current breed average distraction index (DI) for Labradoodles is approximately 0.5. As ethical Australian Labradoodle breeders, we only breed from dogs with scores better (lower) than this average to promote stronger hip structure in our lines.

PennHIP assessment includes three X-ray views taken under sedation:

  • Standard hip extended view
  • Compression view
  • Distraction view

Each view provides important insight into joint structure, with the distraction view being particularly valuable for measuring true joint laxity.

At inja, we also support all our puppy families with guidance on safe growth and development to help protect joint health as their pup grows. While careful breeding significantly reduces the risk of hip dysplasia, it is important to understand that even in carefully bred Australian Labradoodles, environmental factors during growth can influence joint development. These include:

  • Excessive jumping at a young age
  • Slippery flooring surfaces
  • Over-exercising growing puppies

Elbow Scoring

Each breeding dog has elbow X-rays taken to assess joint health, structure, and any early signs of arthritis or abnormal development. Elbow screening is an important tool in detecting and helping reduce the risk of elbow dysplasia, an inherited condition that can lead to pain, and early-onset arthritis.

As ethical Australian Labradoodle breeders, we only breed from dogs with a 0/0 score, meaning completely healthy elbows with no signs of disease or abnormality.

DNA Health Testing

In addition to physical screening, all Inja Australian Labradoodles breeding dogs are DNA tested using Orivet’s comprehensive health panels. This allows us to screen for 30+ hereditary conditions. Some of the key conditions we test for include:

  • Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA)
  • Degenerative Myelopathy
  • Von Willebrand’s Disease
  • MDR1 (Ivermectin Sensitivity)
  • Malignant Hyperthermia

All breeding dogs are carefully selected to ensure they are clear of known genetic conditions wherever possible.
